Simona Barbu – Romanian Artist (Ceramic/Porcelain)

I’m Simona Barbu and I’m coming from Romania.

Living as an expat life since 2000, change my way of being, thinking and seeing the world differently.

Although I have a technical background, I found a pleasant refuge in the world of arts.  Ceramics is my true passion, developed by attending courses and workshops at several ceramic studios in Scotland, Austria and The Netherlands.  Lots of hours of work have improved my skills and enriched my knowledge on this field.

I see my work as a 3D painting, which is based on direct observation and connection with places I’ve visited and fallen in love with.

The stories hidden behind the wonderful facades of the Dutch canal houses in Amsterdam have become the source of inspiration for my works.  I used the slab built technique of stoneware clay with a high attention to details trying to create continuity between the surface of the clay and color produce through glazes applied by hand.

I like to believe that I have left a piece of my spirit with every piece of clay that   I have made.

Lisa Corso – Argentinian Mosaic Artist

Hello I am Lisa Corso from Argentina. I am a mosaic artist with a workshop in The Hague (Den Haag). I use the ancient art of mosaic to create pieces for home and garden. They are designed with spontaneity, combining different techniques and materials.

My interest in mosaic began in 2004. I took courses at the Mosaic Art School in Ravenna.  Before making mosaics I used to paint and I apply the knowledge I have about composition, color and light in my mosaics.

I find mosaic an exciting medium to work with because it is a challenge to blend colors together, to show depth, to use the effect of the light that sparkles on them, to make the right choice of tiles and shapes and the way the tiles are arranged.

Mosaics make beautiful gifts for the house, garden, and work place that last forever.

Elise Talgorn – French Artist

Who is Elise Talgorn?

Elise Talgorn was born 29 years ago in Reims, France. She has lived in France, Spain and Italy, and is now working for five years in the Netherlands.

Elise was flicking through the home comic books collection before she could read. She started caricaturing her teachers before she could write. After a quarter of a century of sketching, she decided it was time to produce some more imposing artwork and began painting.

A Painter

She worked on two series of paintings based on neat lines and solid colours: les Calinous, a collection of tender, quasi-erotic embraces and the very religious Pilato/Crucifixion/Pietà triptych. In these paintings, the formal reinterpretation of these intimate themes creates a distance that protects the spectator. Unexpectedly, his subconscious reveals to him unknown desires, either from flesh or from faith.

A Cartoonist and a Portrait  Artist

Staying true to her cartoonist past, she has created entertaining, sometimes cynical comic strips: the Pepette’s Chronicles, Jobless Pepette, A Horse with No Name, and Histoires A L’Ombre. She also worked as an event caricaturist and realized family portraits.

Award

Dutch light and her short-sightedness inspired several expressionist, partly abstract landscapes. Gele dageraad, a representation of a morning on Rotterdam harbor, won the Public prize of the exhibition “I love de Maas” and is now in the collection of the Maritiem Museum Rotterdam.

Paul Dirkse – Dutch Artist

Paul Dirkse, a native of The Netherlands, was born and educated in The Hague.  Paul was a dreamer during his school years, dreaming of travel and adventure in place he had only read about in books and seen on TV.  No one was surprised when, at 15 years old, Paul bought himself a backpack and hitchhiked his way to the south of France.  He later made his way to Israel where he lived and worked on a Kibbutz.  After making friends with a number of Americans, he decided to try his luck “State Side”. His adventure continued in America, Canada and on to Asia, where his lifelong love of art started.  While residing in Asia, he managed his own business exporting original Asian artwork and sculpture into Europe.

Paul is a self-taught artist.  He works with acrylics and oils, and is constantly experimenting with new styles and methods.  Paul believes that his best work comes without planning, but from the impulse of the moment.  In his own words: “True beauty cannot happen without a touch of magic, and perhaps a little help from the heavens”.

Karina Dukalska – Polish Artist

My name is Karina Dukalska. I was born on the 1st December 1993 in a small city in Poland called Kielce. At the age of six my family decided to move to Holland. Back then I thought my life was being torn apart, because I was leaving my family and home behind. But now, I look back, and can’t do anything else than thank my parents. This move changed my life, in a way that cannot be described. In my opinion it shaped me into the person I am today; a happy and powerful young woman.

I’ve been going to international schools from the very beginning. Currently I am a senior at the International School of The Hague. This multicultural environment I’ve been in for the last eleven years made me very open minded. My friends come from all over the world. They share their stories about their home lands and other places they moved to, and this boosts my passion of travelling. I have seen a mayor part of Europe, but also Kenya and Cuba. Yet I am still thirsty to see more. My priority on my long list right now is Australia, India and Mexico. I know that seeing these places will make me grow. Not only widen my cultural understanding, but also expand on my artistic perspectives.

Other than travelling, I love photography –in particular lomography- and to paint with oil paint. I’ve been painting at a gallery run by Margarita Garces since 2003. My first works were pure observations of nature, and now they have developed into a play of colour and contrast. In my opinion, this is because all of my interests are starting to merge together. My recent paintings present the play of colour that is very common in lomography, details and contrast found in photography, and the main objects painted are gathered from places I have seen. All my travelling is reflected in my paintings. Without the travelling, I would not be able to present the authentic atmosphere of the places in my paintings. I try to present the passionate feeling that I soak in during my trips. I hope that the viewers can connect to the places that I have painted, in the same manner as I do. This is because the way I see the world is expressed through my works. They are windows which reveal my appreciation to the world in which we live in. In the future I plan to continue painting, to show the true colours of places that seem to be dull or neglected.

Scribe – French Artist

Born and grown up in Paris. I have my head full of colours from Le Louvre exhibitions and full of textures from the Parisian fashion shows.

I still have difficulties to get rid of the rigid structure of engineering studies that can sometimes show in my paintings.  Abstract is one way to express the boiling energy I have in me.  I am active in clay sculpture too.

Style: Definitively abstract with paintings, abstract and figurative with clay modelling.

Susana GOMEZ – Spanish Artist

I have always had a strong interest in drawing and painting.  In the last two years I changed my architectural inspiration, as the architect I am, and I decided to look for the way of expressing my ideas and feelings by means of the art of painting.  So I have devoted myself to do what I like the most, to convey my vision of inner and outer world through painting.

I love the color, I love the light, I love to tell stories and I love to immerse myself in the world of the canvas.

Silvia Fratiloiu – Romanian Artist

Inspired by Pablo Picasso, Silvia’s work shows the desire to paint in an abstract fashion.  Her painting technique was acquired through Maryolga Nieto and further modelled to her own feelings and emotions.

Other influences include nature and music, which may be experienced by the viewer of the present exhibition.

Gienek Krawczyk – Polish Artist

After so many years (I am 80) I don’t remember when I started with Art, perhaps some 75 years ago with drawings, colours, portraits, figurative.  Two years ago, I discovered a new kind of having fun in my hobby to TRY ABSTRACT, why not?

Thanks to an incidentally information at the EPO ART CLUB, I enjoy discovering how this new world in painting is even more infinite than we can imagine at this moment.

Margarita Garces – Chilean Artist

Lotty Garino – Ecuadorian Artist

For many years I was the creative force in my working environment. In 2002 I came to Europe and decided to change my career in marketing & communication and devote myself to my true passion, art. I started my studies under the tuition of individual artists and later I joined the Academy of Fine Arts of Leiden.
My works are characterised by strong colours and vibrating contrasts that reflect my passionate character and the influence that my country of origin, Ecuador, holds over me.
The contrast that exists in nature fascinates me, like a summer sunset in Scandinavia compared to a sunset in a beach in the Caribbean or Latin America. Different worlds but all fascinating to paint.
I paint mainly with oil and acrylic. I’m using different textures in the paintings to create a relief of shapes resulting in a clear biography of nature.

Tooba Rezaei – Persian Artist

Tooba Rezaie is one of those artists who was born for painting. She was born in Bandar Abbas, in the south of Iran in 1978. She thought herself how to paint, but when she detected a trace of skill and/or expertise somewhere or in someone, she was hungry to learn more and more. Being passionate about painting and learning even more, she went to the Art University Tehran in 1997, where she got her bachelor degree in painting and drawing.

She began to develop her own style, which is influenced by the culture of her roots, the south of Iran. She enjoys portraying, especially women, who play a big role in her paintings. She paints ‘beauty, pain and passion’, using intense and vibrant colors. In some paintings she also uses flowing forms influenced by Khoshnevisi Nastaligh (a special Iranian handwriting). It is where these flowing forms and movements that raised her interest in animation. She started to work as an illustrator and animator in the animation industry in Iran. She worked two years in this field, during which her name was mentioned in the credits of several animation series and some short animation movies.

In 2006 she went to The Netherlands to study Image Synthesis and computer Animation, which is a part of the internationally acknowledged European Media Master of Arts Programme, at the Hogeschool der Kunsten Utrecht. She graduated and is working as an animator and background artist for a game company in The Netherlands since then. Painting is still a part of her life.

Tooba is a successful artist. One of her painting is a part of the collection of the Tehran Contemporary Art Museum since 2002. She participated in eight groups and four solo exhibitions in Iran, Austria and The Netherlands. She made the design of a board game and the game she designed for the Dutch game company won several prices.
